Our latest crop of spy shots show the F80 M3 undergoing testing in the mountains while showing off its latest take on the M-car bonnet power dome.
The test mule, although fairly heavily disguised with headache-inducing swirly-pattern cladding, hints at some purposeful stylistic add-ons to BMW’s eagerly awaited model.
Through the front cladding it’s just about possible to discern a deeper front apron with revised styling and gaping air dam, while the rear shots show off a quad-tailpipe arrangement that is wider than that of the current car. Other clues as to this car’s performance-oriented bearings include lightweight alloy wheels in a five twin-spoke design behind which sit sizeable ventilated discs.
The bonnet also sports the now-signature power dome, but there is still a good deal of speculation regarding what dwells beneath said performance protuberance.
The latest crop of reports suggest that the current car’s naturally aspirated V8 will make way for a straight-six engine in two possible states – a direct-injection unit featuring twin-turbos or possibly a tri-turbo set-up similar to that of the BMW’s latest M Performance offerings.
Either way, general consensus suggests that the power output will hover around the 335 kW mark and that the new car will utilise lightweight materials in its construction, as well as an array of BMW’s EfficientDynamics fuel-saving features such as stop/start technology and brake-energy recuperation.
