The revival of the illustrious MG brand continues to gather steam with the imminent reveal of its all-new compact car, the MG3. For the marque's local distributor, the new hatch will be a welcome addition to a line-up that currently consists of only the bigger, more expensive MG6, in saloon and liftback bodystyles.
The MG3 went on sale in China last year and is currently being prepared for its European debut. These photographs show it undergoing hot weather testing in Spain. It is most likely that European versions (and therefore also cars destined for South Africa), will make use of a 1,5-litre petrol engine that develops around 80 kW and 135 N.m of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is fitted. A hot version sporting a turbocharged version of the same engine is supposedly also under development. Production of the newcomer will take place in China but the design and development work was done in the UK.
Look out for more information around the time of the Paris Motor Show (September).
