The first spy pictures of the upcoming entry-level McLaren, called the Sport Series, have surfaced on the Internet. McLaren recently released this teaser, but by analysing these pictures we can learn a lot about this new car.
We already know that it will use the same carbon-fibre tub as the 650S, and looking at the pictures one might think (especially wrapped in the camouflage) that it seems to offer the design as the 650S. But, it is quite clear that the nose and headlights are totally different, while the side intake – which forms a huge part of the butterfly doors – mimics the design of the P1, and not the 650S.
At the rear there is also a significant diffuser, while there are quite clearly further P1 design influences. The sloping roof line from behind the cabin over the engine also seems to represent similar lines to that of the P1.
Under the engine cover is the same 3,8-litre, V8, turbocharged unit found in the 650S. However, as previously reported, in the Sport Series the engine will deliver between 335 and 373 kW.
The entry-level side of the supercar market will see a host of new models next year. Apart from the McLaren Sport Series, we are likely to see the launch of the facelifted 991 Porsche 911 Turbo, while the Mercedes-AMG GT will also arrive in South Africa.
