Subaru is looking to give its agile BRZ the full-fat STI treatment.
Having tantalized us with its WRX concept at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Subaru has now issued a series of teaser images of what looks to be a Subaru BRZ STI.
From what can be gathered from the close-ups, the BRZ STI will probably sport a more aggressive-looking aerodynamic body kit (and likely a prominent rear wing) a revised front grille with the signature red/pink ‘STI’ decal and model-specific 18-inch alloy wheels shielding four-piston STI brakes.
Information is sparse on the powerplant front, but one of Subaru’s engineers has hinted that, due to a lack of space in the engine bay, the flat-four engine layout could nix the possibility of turbocharging.
However, local tuning firm RGMotorsport, has developed a bolt-on supercharger kit for the mechanically similar Toyota 86 that bumps the power output up from 147 to 210 kW. Given Subaru’s history of turbocharging, forced inductionfor the BRZ STI’s powerplant wouldn’t be beyond the realms of feasibility
One suggestion has been that Subaru will utilize a number of variable control system revisions, i.e. valve timing and so forth, to up the power. An estimated output of 171 kW has been put forth, but we’ll have to wait for the BRZ STI’s official unveiling – possibly at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
