With its Polo 1,2 TDI BlueMotion that has an economy figure of just 4,1 litres/100 km in the combined cycle, Volkswagen currently offers the most fuel efficient vehicle in South Africa. As a way of expanding its BlueMotion line-up to offer better consumption across its range, VWSA has now equipped the Tiguan with its BlueMotion technology (which joins the Golf and Touareg BlueMotion models).
Diesel and petrol models benefit from a suite of changes, including stop/start and regenerative braking. The 1,4-litre engine is the first TSI unit locally to feature BlueMotion (so far only TDI engines have been ‘greened’). The 90 kW and 110 kW TSI engines have consumption figures of 6,5 and 6,7 litres/100 km respectively.
Volkswagen claims the 81 kW 2,0-litre TDI has a consumption figure of 5,3 litres/100 km and emits 139 g/km of CO2. The 90 kW 1,4 TSI spews out of 152 g/km of CO2 and the 110 kW unit emits 156 g/km.
