The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists, in conjunction with Wesbank, has awarded the Porsche Cayman S the SA Car of the Year prize for 2014.
Having netted top honours in last year’s voting with the Boxster, Porsche can now call it two in a row as it’s fixed-roof sibling gleaned 199 points from the jury.
The results are as follows:
- Porsche Cayman S – 199 points
- Volkswagen Golf 7 1,4 TSI 90 kW Comfortline DSG -192 points
- Audi A3 Sportback 1,4T FSI – 168 points
- Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG – 143 points
- Jaguar F-Type 3,0 V6 S – 136 points
- Renault Clio4 66kW Turbo Dynamique – 133 points
- Lexus IS 350 F-Sport – 123 points
- Volvo V40 – 106 points
- Peugeot 208 GTI – 100 points
The CAR team was suitably impressed by the Porsche Cayman S PDK that we tested last year, concluding that, “Porsche continues to create well-rounded products that tick the right boxes for the brand’s aficionados and this particular contender begs the question: is an outlay of more than a million warranted if a rapid, multi-talented everyday coupé is essentially what most sportscar buyers require?”
