Street and Racing Technology (SRT), the division of the Chrysler group’s responsible for brute machinery such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 and Dodge Challenger SRT-8 will once again head up the development of the Viper. In the build-up to the new model’s debut at the New York Auto Show in April, SRT released a teaser image on facebook.
Despite not giving up too much detail, the teaser reveals the addition of a double-bubble roof, central bonnet vent and the familiar squat stance.
Very little else is known, but rumour has it that the V10 engine that’s been doing service in the Viper since its introduction in 1991 could benefit from an increase in displacement to a mammoth 8,7 litres – potentially hiking power and torque figures up close to 500 kW and over 800 N.m.
The Viper will also drop the “Dodge” name; instead adopting the SRT as its brand name and acting as a halo model for the entire Chrysler portfolio. Also new to the 2013 SRT Viper will be the addition of a stability or traction control system, which is now required by American lawmakers.
