Volkswagen South Africa has decided to up the appeal of its successful Polo Vivo by adding street cred to the lineup with the arrival of a sportier three-door Vivo GT. The GT has added some spice to the otherwise drab Vivo line-up, but there’s still no service plan…
If you’re expecting semi-hot looks, you’re going to be disappointed because the Vivo GT is relatively mild on the exterior. Only keen eyes will notice the lowered ride height and 15-inch alloys. Less inconspicuous are the GT badges, twin chrome tailpipes and tailgate spoiler.
The Vivo GT is essentially based on the range-topping 1,6 Trendline in terms of specification and uses a five-speed manual gearbox to drive 77 kW and 155 N.m of torque to the front wheels. Volkswagen claims a zero to 100 km/h time of 11,0 seconds and a top speed of 187 km/h.
Inside, the Vivo distinguishes itself with “gunmetal silver” inserts in the facia, red stitching on the gear lever and handbrake boot, red seatbelts and a three-spoke steering wheel.
Four colours are available: Deep Black, Candy White, Flash Red and Reflex Silver, and, for R155 320, the Vivo GT comes standard with a three-year/120 000km warranty and a six-year anti-corrosion warranty.
