Volkswagen picked the Wörthersee Tour to launch the Golf R as a cabriolet concept. It is not a very well-known show, but it is an important show for the bigger Volkswagen brand. It is the largest GTI meet in the world and this means it is the perfect place to unveil a new Volkswagen product, especially one that has a Golf name attached to it.
According to Volkswagen this Golf R cabriolet concept will use the same 2,0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the hatch. This means 188 kW (if it were to become available locally) and 350 N.m. If we were to take a guess, it is likely to only become available with the DSG transmission. Just like the hot hatch, the cabriolet will also feature the same 25 mm lowered sport chassis.
The interior boasts several highlights including leather sport seats and a couple of carbon inserts and piano black trim scattered across the cabin.
Although Volkswagen calls this a concept, the car is highly likely to reach production before the end of the year.
