South Africa’s immensely popular Polo Vivo, VW’s budget-segment offering, has been bolstered with the introduction of the Maxx, which boasts strong standard specification and kit to distinguish it from the rest of the Vivo range.
Exclusively available as a five-door hatch, the Vivo Maxx boasts raised suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, colour-coded exterior mirrors, aluminium roof rails and dual exhaust tailpipes. Inside, the Vivo Maxx also gets a titanium-finish facia, with front electric windows, manual air-conditioner and three-spoke leather steering wheel. There’s also an MP3-compatible audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and four speakers.
This model is powered by the same 1,6-litre four cylinder engine that does service across the range and which produces 77 kW at 5 250 r/min and 155 N.m of torque at 3 500 r/min. Mated with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Vivo Maxx boasts a combined-cycle fuel-consumption figure of just 6,6 litres/100 km and emits just 157 g/km of CO2 .
Standard safety features include driver and passenger airbags, as well as ABS with EBD. There’s also an immobiliser and central locking for added peace of mind.
The Polo Vivo Maxx costs R160 300 (VAT and emissions tax included). As with the rest of the Polo Vivo range, the Maxx comes standard with a three-year/100 000 km warranty. A service plan is optional.
