Toyota is no stranger to the hybrid segment. Its Prius models are synonymous with this type of vehicle. Now the Japanese brand is growing the number of hybrid offerings, as well as making the technology available in a smaller car, with the unveling of the Yaris hybrid. The new model contains Toyota’s full hybrid powertrain, Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) in the compact dimensions of the all-new Yaris.
The Yaris Hybrid features a new, 1,5 litre petrol engine with a lighter, more compact electric motor, transaxle, inverter and battery pack. The new system is 20 per cent lighter than the one in the Auris Hybrid.
Thanks to the reduction in size of every key HSD component and having both the fuel tank and battery installed under the rear seat, the Yaris Hybrid features identical occupant space and the same 286-litre luggage capacity as that of the conventional models.
The Yaris Hybrid’s highly efficient, 74 kW powertrain allows customers to frequently drive in modes that emit zero NOx, PM and CO2 emissions.
The new flagship of the Yaris model range features an exclusive, aerodynamically efficient exterior design. The most affordable full hybrid on the market goes on sale locally in June 2012.
