In 1973 BMW’s Rosslyn plant was established, and today it produced its 1 millionth 3 Series sedan. Interestingly, this plant in Pretoria was the Bavarian company’s first foreign plant. This was only the beginning, and today BMW has 30 sites in 14 different countries.
BMW also started to build 3 Series models for export in 1994. Last year the company built 68 771 3 Series sedans for local and international consumption. Some of these export models which are destined for the Nothern hemisphere feature the company’s xDrive, all-wheel-drive system.
Let’s not forget, this is also the factory which gave us uniquely South African built BMW’s such as the E30 333i and 325iS models, as well as the 745i.
