Armoured BMW X5 Security on the way

Alleged-gangsters-of-Eastern-European-origin-now-living-in-SA take note… on 27 August BMW are set to debut the armoured version of their X5 at the  Moscow Auto Show say the guys at Bimmertoday website.

First seen as a concept at last year’s Frankfurt Auto Show, the X5 Security looks for all intents and purposes like a bog standard BMW X5. But with a passenger cell made from high-strength steel and polycarbonate windows that withstand bullets, shrapnel, and blunt weapons, it will meet Germany’s VR6 standard for occupant protection. And that means it’ll stop a bullet from an AK-47.

Naturally you’ll be needing some firepower under the hood to get away from any gang turf-related ambushes and the X5 Security comes with the same 330 kW twin-turbo, 4,4-litre V8 as the X5 xDrive50i. The engine and chassis have also been modified to cope with the armour’s extra weight says BMW, and it should handle like a normal X5.
