Think the dinky Q2 is the smallest that Audi will go with its crossover range? Think again. According to a fresh report out of Europe, the Ingolstadt-based automaker is working on a Q1 set to be positioned at the very foot of its burgeoning SUV line-up.
Auto Express reports that the production version of the new Q1 will likely be unveiled before the end of 2020.
The British publication asked Bram Schot, Audi sales and marketing chief, about the chances of a Q1 joining the range.
“You cannot ignore the SUV trend. The question is how wide and how deep do we make the programme with SUVs?” said Schot.
“Depending on the business opportunities, we decide on the future product portfolio. But don’t be surprised if in two or three years you do see the car, as we try to react fast to markets,” he added.
Auto Express speculated that the new Q1 would be based on the upcoming second-generation version of the A1 hatchback, itself based on the ubiquitous MQB platform.
