Swoopy SUVs are here to stay, whether we like it or not. It seems that there are enough buyers out there who prefer the coupe silhouette on their SUVs for manufacturers to make a solid business case.
We’re all familiar with the X6 and X4 from BMW. More recently we’ve seen the Mercedes GLE designed in the same mould. Now Audi is set to jump on the bandwagen er,… sorry, bandwagon.
According to reports coming out of Europe the Audi TTQ has been given the green light for production. And it shouldn’t come as a big surprise either. The very first versions of the Audi TT were shown in Allroad Shooting Brake format over a year ago. That shape, however, would not be nearly as space and user-friendly as a more conventional five-door SUV.
The all-new VW Tiguan is set for a Geneva Motor Show launch and that model is purported to be based on the group’s versatile MQB platform, which already underpins the current TT, making it an ideal base on which to build the new TTQ SUV.
Perhaps as early as 2016 we could see an Audi TTQ, and with the more recent showing of the five-door TT Sportback the Audi TT family looks set to grow quite substantially over the next few years.
