If you’ve been looking for a Dakar-inspired supercar – and who hasn’t? – UAE-based Zarooq Motors may have the answer. Althought it was announced two years ago, Zarooq Motors has confirmed that the SandRacer 500 GT is finally heading into production.
This announcement comes after thorough testing and numerous mechanical and design improvements from the original concept. In essence, the SandRacer 500 GT will be an off-roading, mid-engined, two-seater supercar which caters for a very niche clientele.
The SandRacer 500 GT will sit on a space frame racing chassis that incorporates Dakar-grade Intrax dampers with 450 mm of suspension travel. It will be powered by a 6,2-litre V8 which will deliver 391 kW and 660 N.m of torque to the rear wheels through a five-speed sequential gearbox.
There’s no word on performance figures just yet but with Zarooq Motors claiming an overall mass of just 1 200 kg (thanks in part to a lightweight carbon-fibre interior by Mansory), it’s bound to be brutal off the line.
The first run of SandRacers will be limited to 35 units that will cost an eye-watering $450 000 (R6,1 million). Deliveries are said to start by the end of this year.
