Ford has expanded its Ranger Wildtrak offerings to include automatic versions of its 4×2 and 4×4 models, while the rest of the Ranger family also receives some spec-related updates for 2013.

In both iterations the Ford Ranger Wildtrak will still be powered by the 3,2-litre, five-cylinder, Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel engine. Coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, this unit develops 147 kW and 470 N.m of torque.

In addition to the cosmetic upgrades, the Wildtrak’s standard features include Bluetooth with voice control, steering wheel mounted audio controls, dual-zone climate control, auto wipers, electric windows all round, and heated seats.

The rest of the Ranger line-up also undergoes some changes for 2013. The XLS versions of the Single-, Super- and Double-Cab models will receive a spec-related shot in the arm comprising Bluetooth with voice activation, steering wheel audio controls and a USB port. In addition XLT models can now be fitted with an optional reverse camera/parking sensor set-up, while Single-Cab Base models can now be fitted with air-con and a safety pack comprising ABS with EBD, dual front airbags and a seatbelt reminder alarm.

All Ranger models are covered by a 4 year/120 000 km warranty. All models from XL spec upwards receive a 5 year/90 000 km service plan (optional on all lesser-specced models). 3 years roadside assistance and, in the case of 4×4 models, free off-road driving tuition are also provided. Service intervals are every 15 000 km.

Nice move by Ford, been wondering if they were ever going to put an automatic gearbox on the Wildtrack edition. Was considering the VW Amarok Auto but not anymore. VW Amarok is not good value for money compared to the F Ranger
