In July this year, Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing revealed they would be making, on paper at least, what looks like the most impressive hypercar to date. It was codenamed the AM-RB 001 and, according to a new report from motoring.com.au, it’s just about 95% complete.
Design director Marek Reichman says that the AM-RB 001 will employ a naturally aspirated V12 engine with a capacity of somewhere between 6,0- and 7,0 litres, and will be able to rev all the way to 9 500 r/min. This “incredible sounding” engine will be mated to a 60 kW KERS boost system and an Xtrac single-clutch sequential transmission.
With a weight of around 1 000 kg, the AM-RB 001 will apparently deliver 4,5G of lateral cornering and have the ability to keep up with F1 cars on the track, partly thanks to its top speed, which will be “upwards of 402 km/h”.
Despite this, Reichman insists it will be a comfortable car to use daily. The gullwing doors will be electrically powered and the car will feature ride-height adjustment for speed-bumps.
Only 150 units will be produced, and each is apparently already sold despite the no-doubt-mammoth pricetag. In addition, 25 track-only models will also be released (incidentally, it has already been confirmed that this track model will be capable of accelerating from zero to 322 km/h in around 10 seconds, before returning to zero in another five).
Customers are scheduled to receive their hypercars by the end of 2018.
