After the first seven months of 2016, the Volkswagen Group has managed to outsell its closest competitor in China, moving some 2 148 000 units in the world’s most populous country.
This total is up some 8% year-on-year, and puts the German automaker ahead of General Motors, which has sold 2 081 005 vehicles in China so far this year. GM was, of course, the best-selling group in the country in 2015.
According to Automotive News, the German group’s growth in China was driven by the Volkswagen brand itself, which recorded a 17% increase in sales in July alone. Audi, meanwhile, nudged a 10% boost in the same month, while Skoda was up some 16%.
This latest news comes despite the fact that the Volkswagen Group is still dealing with the fallout of the diesel emissions scandal.
Last month, we reported that Volkswagen Group had sold more vehicles in the first half of 2016 than any other manufacturer, putting it squarely in the lead on global terms, too.
