Castrol GTX was launched back in 1972 and is probably the best-known oil brand in South Africa. Who could forget the famous “Boet en Swaer” television adverts?
A lot has changed since then and Castrol has updated the range with enhanced additive packages to suit the unique conditions vehicles face in Africa.
Castrol GTX is marketed as a value-for-money mineral oil aimed at older generation, high-mileage vehicles. According to statistics, the general car park in South Africa is between seven and nine years old, counting only the registered vehicles. With the current economic conditions, people tend to keep their cars longer and even extend service intervals beyond the recommendation of the relevant manufacturer in order to save money. This is where Castrol believes its GTX can make a difference.
The enhanced additive packages focus on reducing the sludge build-up in engines, cleaning the engine components and ultimately extending the useful life of an engine. Three products were this week launched, namely:
GTX UltraClean: helps clear away sludge build-up and extend engine life.
GTX Diesel: for diesel engines to protect against harmful deposits and soot build-up that cause wear and decrease engine performance.
GTX 20W-50: formulated to help reduce compression loss and the burning of oil in high-mileage engines.
Lastly, the packaging was updated to portray the latest global image of Castrol.
