It might not come as a surprise that Ferrari’s 3,9-litre, V8, twin-turbo unit, as found in the 488 GTB, has won the coveted International Engine of the Year award. With this engine, Ferrari also won the new engine category as well as the performance engine category. BMW’s 1,5-litre, hybrid engine from its i8 sports car came second, and Porsche’s 3,0-litre, turbocharged flat-six engine came third.
Ferrari also walked away in the “above 4,0-litre” category for its 6,3-litre engine, as fitted in the F12 Berlinetta and the F12dtf.
In the sub 1,0-litre class, Ford took overall victory for its 998 cm3 turbocharged three-cylinder, Volkswagen came second with its 998 cm3 turbocharged three-cylinder, while BMW came third for its 647 cm3 two-cylinder electric-petrol range-extender.
The green engine award went to Tesla for its full-electric powertrain.
