Mercedes-Benz South Africa has announced that it will start producing the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic, C63 and C63 S in East London later this year.
The news comes after a local investment that the Daimler-backed brand claims is “in excess of R200-million”.
The three Mercedes-AMG products will be built alongside the C-Class at the brand’s plant in East London. Along with these AMG models, the Mercedes-Benz says the C 400 4Matic will also be produced at the South African factory.
In 2016, Mercedes-Benz SA exported nearly 12 000 C-Class units. Production of the latest generation model began in May 2014.
Since 1958, 24 different Mercedes-Benz passenger car models have been produced at the production site, including four generations of C-Class vehicles. In 1998, Mercedes-Benz SA become a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler.
