The Paceman isn’t the most popular of MINI’s wares. In fact, for the past three months running, the three-door crossover has made our list of South Africa’s worst-selling cars.
And now, finally, it seems that the BMW-backed automaker will cease production of the Paceman, by the end of 2016, according to UK reports.
The slow-selling vehicle is currently built in Austria by contract manufacturer Magna Steyr, which has just won a deal the produce the new BMW 5 Series.
Furthermore, reports out of Europe suggest that the Graz-based Magna Steyr will also build the upcoming BMW Z5 and Toyota Supra twins, as well as one or two products from Jaguar Land Rover. The extra work will apparently see the company opening a second plant in Slovenia.
All of this means that there will be no room left to produce the oddball MINI Paceman, according to Autocar. The Countryman, however, is set to live on, although it will likely be produced elsewhere.
The MINI Coupe and Roadster are also set to be axed from the range.
