All-new and 113 kg lighter, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has been unveiled and is an efficient and sophisticated evolution of the outgoing model.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, set for sale in more than 40 markets globally, including South Africa, is bigger than the current model, but has been designed with an athletic and aerodynamic approach in mind. For Chevrolet it was important to make their best-selling vehicle’s successor as appealing as the old one.
With a wheelbase of 2 7oo mm, the Chevrolet Cruze is roomier on the inside, resulting directly in improved rear leg- and knee-room. Not only is the vehicle bigger, but the rigid and light construction of the vehicle means that the vehicle adopts a more dynamic driving experience. The structure of the vehicle’s body is also 24 kg lighter than the current Cruze.
The new Cruze will offer a raft of features including wireless phone charging, heated rear leather seats, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. 10 airbags also come as standard. More advanced features are optional, such as Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Forward Collision Alert. The latter features are to improve the safety levels of both the car’s occupants and those outside the vehicle.
On the engine front the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will be equipped with a new 1,4-litre turbocharged engine, good for 113 kW and 240 N.m of torque. The 0-100 dash should take around eight seconds. Coupled to the six-speed auto transmission (a six-speed manual is also available), the new Chevy should see fuel consumption hover around 5,9 L/100 km on highway driving.
