Subaru purists might not approve, but this Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid shows the Japanese automaker is not averse to some progressive thinking.
Set for sales in Japan only, the Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid takes the company’s 2,0-litre boxer engine and adds a 10 kW electric motor. Mated to a Lineartronic CVT gearbox, high-voltage batteries, and all-wheel drive, the Impreza Sport Hybrid is claimed to return figures as low as 4,9 l/100 km.
The vehicle boasts a low centre of gravity, thanks to the batteries and high-voltage components stored under the boot. This also contributes to a balanced weight distribution that in turn improves the AWD handling. The batteries are recharged under braking and together with Adaptive Cruise Control, improve fuel consumption under every day use.
The Subaru Impreza Sport Hybrid can be identified by its sportier front and rear bumpers, side-sill extensions, roof spoiler, and LED taillights.
Subaru South Africa hope that in future the Subaru Impreza sport Hybrid will make it to our shores, but have ruled out the possibility of an imminent arrival.
