How much did you pay for your last set of tyres? Whatever your answer, it is not nearly as staggering as this…
Dubai-based Z Tyre has developed a special set of Z1 tyres decorated with 24-karat gold and plenty of diamonds. And, perhaps most surprising of all, the company managed to find a buyer willing to pay the $600 000 (around R9,1-million) price-tag.
As you may have guessed, that makes these bits of rubber the “World’s Most Expensive Set of Car Tyres”, as judged by the folks over at Guinness World Records.
The tyres were designed in Dubai, before being shipped to Italy, where artisan jewellers worked their magic. They were then returned to Dubai, where gold leafing was applied “by the very same craftsmen who have worked on the new presidential palace in Abu Dhabi”.
So, where does all that cash (from the unnamed buyer) go?
“In keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Z Tyres will donate all profits from the $600 000 sale to the Zenises Foundation, which focuses on improving access to education across the world,” said CEO Harjeev Kandhari.
And the tyres? Well, unfortunately there’s no word on what vehicle they will adorn…
