There was probably a rolling of eyes and sarcastic nods among the gathered throngs of show-goers in Geneva when Koenigsegg described the new Regera as a luxurious alternative to its lightweight, track-focused hypercars.
Coming from any other manufacturer the announcement of a luxury model would normally herald the inclusion of plush innards and pillowy suspension, but in the Swedish hypercar crafter’s parlance the Regera has been dubbed a “luxury Megacar” – basically a svelte-looking sportscar with a Veyron-humbling output of more than 1 000 kW.
At the Regera’s heart lies the Koenigsegg Direct Drive system – a set-up that combines a 5,0-litre V8 engine with a trio of electric motors (one on each wheel and one on the crankshaft each powered by a 9,27 kWh, 620 V battery pack) to develop an overall power output in excess of 1 100 kW.
According to Koenigsegg the Regera can hit 100 km/h from standstill in 2,8 seconds, 150-250 km/h in 3,2 seconds and 0-400 km/h in just 20 seconds.
The Regera will be limited to just 80 examples.
