Lamborghini to unveil latter-day GT350 at Geneva?

In a recent interview, Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, revealed that the Italian supercar maker will be unveiling a GT concept at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

According to Winkelmann, Lamborghini will use the Geneva Motor Show to showcase “something truly extraordinary that’s based on the V12”.

He revealed that the concept will be a front/mid-engined V12 Grand Tourer. He also hinted that the concept will feature a two-door, two-seater layout and will be underpinned by a chassis developed separately from that of the Aventador.

While the car in question will undoubtedly wear the “concept” moniker, there is something to be said about the timing of its reveal. This year will mark Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary, so there’s bound to be something special on the cards.

It’s also the 50th birthday of its first model, a certain two-door, front-engined, V12 Grand Tourer called the GT350.

The Lamborghini GT350 was first unveiled at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show (again, uncanny) and was Lamborghini’s first production model. It was powered by a 3,5-litre V12 engine developing 238 kW and coupled with a five-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission.

Could Lamborghini be working on a spiritual successor to the GT350? We’ll see on 5 March.
