With the recent unveiling of the Volkswagen XL Sport at the Paris Motor Show, some focus was placed again on VW’s purchase of Italian motorcycle manufacturer, Ducati.
The XL Sport was one of the stars of the show, and it won’t be last joint product (or concept) that Volkswagen will produce.
A few years back, and it was Mercedes-AMG that was after Ducati, but, reports now indicate that Mercedes-AMG has turned its attention to another Italian motorcycle manufacturer, MV Agusta.
A report by Reuters indicate that the German company would buy a stake of 25% for the amount of €30 million, with the option to extent its stake if they further invest in the brand.
This news follows rumours in August that Mercedes-AMG is looking for a new tie up. However, it now seems the deal could be signed as early as next year.
At CAR we are quite familiar with MV Agusta’s products. In the past few years we have tested the company’s F4 RR as well as the F3 675 (track test video here).
It would be fascinating to see the products these two companies will produce following such a deal.
