Reckon that Mercedes-Benz has all of its SUV and crossover bases covered, from the entry-level GLA and the upcoming GLB through to the flagship GLS and the latest version of the G-Class (and everything in between)? Think again, according this fresh report from the crystal-ball-gazing folks over at AutoBild, who say a Mercedes-Benz GLG is coming.
The German publication reports that despite there still being no confirmed project number for the rumoured GLG (it’s also telling that no prototypes have yet been spied), an SUV from Stuttgart wearing this badge is very much on the cards.
AutoBild speculates that the Mercedes-Benz GLG will arrive at some point after 2020 as an “edgy offshoot” of the GLE, which itself is due to enter a new generation in 2019.
Furthermore, the publication expects the rumoured GLG to be offered with an off-road package (complete with air suspension and differential locks) as standard to allow it to compete directly with the likes of the Range Rover Sport.
In addition, the report suggests that the GLG will boast a pop-up third row (and a lengthy rear overhang) to allow it to function as a seven-seater.
