It is no secret that Mercedes-AMG is doing rather well in terms of sale in the past few years. This year the sub-division of Mercedes-Benz will sell a record of over 40 000 cars.
In a bid to increase this number even further, the company has decided to launch a new range at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in January 2015, taking place in Detroit.
Called the AMG Sport range, these vehicles will slot into the gap between the standard Mercedes-Benz models specified with the AMG package and the real AMG models. This means that the new AMG Sport models will now be a more direct competitor to BMW’s M Performance range which fulfils the exact same role within BMW’s range.
The AMG Sport models will receive engine and chassis upgrades and also stronger braking systems.
The picture above shows the first two vehicles which will become available with this treatment. On the left is the new GLE SUV coupe (which is likely to be unveiled at the show), and on the right the current generation C-Class.
Expect this strategy to filter through the rest of the Mercedes-Benz range in the coming months.
