Much of the world – including bakkie-mad South Africa – seems to be itching for the production version of the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class double-cab bakkie to arrive.
But, seemingly in a bid to keep interested parties, well, quite interested, the Stuttgart-based brand has released a short video in which Kai Sieber, director of design brands and operations, explains the design philosophy of the pick-up concept. Of course, no mention is made of the Nissan Navara on which the production version will be based…
In the clip, Sieber looks at both versions of Concept X-Class: the so-called “powerful adventurer” and the “stylish explorer”.
“For us, there is one absolute must: a car that can handle off-road conditions,” Sieber said, referring to the first concept.
When describing the second concept, he uses words such as “sensual purity”, “emotionally appealing” and “sensually muscular”. Yes, we’re still talking about a bakkie…
