MG announces baby SUV ahead of Beijing Show

MG Motors has revealed sketches of the Icon, an SUV concept that draws inspiration from the MGB GT of the ‘60s, a week ahead of its debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Built on the same platform as the MG5 hatchback, which will go on sale later this year, the Icon is a fair shot at the likes of Nissan’s Juke as it’s similarly sized and has its fair share of quirky design cues as well. Right up front, the most recognizable aspects of the Icon’s styling are the round headlamps, set back into the wheelarches, and a wide, chrome-rimmed horizontal grille.
The raked roof and tailgate are further nods to the MGB GT, and the front foglamps and tail-lights are vertical LED units. The clamshell side doors open to reveal four sports seats – the rear chairs fold to increase rear luggage room.
The Icon will be powered by a turbocharged 1,5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, made by MG’s parent company SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), which produces 100 kW and 200 N.m of torque.
