Mitsubishi adds entry-level Outlander
Mitsubishi has added a “value-for-money” Outlander derivative to its local line-up. Until now, the local Outlander offering comprised a single model, the R 399 900 GLS, but now the R50 000 cheaper GLX (R349 900) will give buyers a more affordable alternative.
The GLX is powered by the same 2,4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that can be found in the GLS. It delivers 125 kW at 6 000 r/min and 226 N.m at 4 100 r/min. The driver can elect to send the power, via the 6-speed CVT transmission, to two or four wheels using a simple switch in the cabin. The four-wheel drive system can also be locked and both Outlanders offer a ground clearance of 215 mm.
In terms of features, the GLX offers rear park distance control, automatic stability control (ASC), ABS with EBD and six airbags. The more expensive GLS offers adds a higher trim level that includes a sunroof, hill start assist, leather seats and a Rockford Fosgate audio system.
Both models come with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty and a 3-year/60 000 km maintenance plan.
