New McLaren P13 Sports Series: images, specs, details

More images and details have emerged of McLaren’s Porsche 911-challenging new sportscar due to be unveiled at the New York Motor Show in April 2015.

Positioned below the 650S and codenamed Project 13, it carries some design cues from the P1 hypercar with big, brawny wheel arches and the signature scoop on the doors. However the front-end also sits very low to the ground and appears to present a completely different aerodynamic package.

The rear of the car is also new and, apart from the exhausts that have been moved to the bottom of the bumper, from the B-pillars back it appears a little longer too. Could McLaren be thinking about a 2+2?

When launched, the car will be named the Sports Series and will share a carbon-fibre chassis with its bigger brothers and be powered by a detuned version of McLaren’s 3,8-litre, twin-turbo V8. Outputs are expected to be around 335 kW which, together with that lightweight chassis, should make for a very quick and nimble car.

Initially the coupe will be launched, but expect spider and track-focused versions to follow.
