Is a 388 kW/645 N.m utility task vehicle (UTV) really necessary? Regardless of the answer, the Salt Lake City-based Nikola Motor Company has made one, calling it the Zero UTV.
The new model employs a 72 kWh lithium-ion battery which is good for a maximum range of 322 km. There are electric motors on each wheel, which gives the UTV the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just over 3,0 seconds. Top speed hasn’t been listed.
The Zero UTV weighs just 861 kg, has a ground clearance of 37 cm and is completely waterproof, meaning it is more than capable of coping in the wild. Optional extras include a rear steering system and a 15-inch infotainment system (two dual 7-inch screens are standard).
Kit such as LED headlamps and a front winch can also be seen in the press images, although it’s unclear whether these are standard or optional.
Deliveries of the Zero UTV will start next year, with a starting price of $37 000 (around R518 000) for the four-seater. Two-seater models will be introduced further down the line for a little cheaper.
