Brabus has taken the wraps off the Brabus 850 6,0 Biturbo Cabrio, which it bills as the world’s fastest and most powerful four-seater cabriolet.
Based on the all-wheel drive Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet, the German specialist’s latest unveiling churns out a whopping 625 kW and 1 450 N.m, which lends it a top speed of 350 km/h (electronically limited due to “tyre limitations”).
It gallops from zero to 100 km/h in a claimed 3,5 seconds (an improvement of some fourth tenths), before hitting the 200 km/h mark at just 9,4 seconds. The Brabus 850 6,0 Biturbo Cabrio can be bought as complete car or built up from any current Mercedes S 63 Cabriolet, says the tuner.
So, what exactly does that entail? Well, the Mercedes-Benz specialists took the stock twin-turbo eight-pot and increased its capacity from 5 461 cm3 to 5 912 cm3, installing a special crankshaft with a longer stroke, increasing the cylinder bore and fitting forged pistons and high-performance connecting rods.
Furthermore, the production turbochargers were binned in favour of Brabus versions with larger compressor units, while 75 mm downpipes and special metal catalysts were also installed. A stainless-steel sport exhaust system was fitted, complete with butterfly valves electronically controlled from the cockpit.
Brabus also fitted an intake module fashioned from carbon, as well as two larger air filter boxes, which draw their air from a special duct in the bonnet, and new carbon air ducts with considerably larger cross sections.
In terms of styling and aerodynamics, Brabus added plenty of (mostly carbon) bits and bobs, from the front spoiler to the rear diffuser. And the package was finished off with lightweight 21-inch wheels, a subtle suspension drop and plenty of new in-cabin additions.
