With the Aston Martin DB9 finally being laid to rest, a Russian coachbuilder named Cardi will be taking its architecture to build something new. It’s called the Concept 442 and it’s set to be a complete redesign of the DB9 to bring its elemental focus from sporty to elegant. These images were published in a special brochure released on the coachbuilder’s 25th anniversary.
The DB9 has a lot of elegance to its design but not really as much as this Concept 442. The core structure of this concept is to remove the DB9’s B-pillars and insert a sweeping panoramic roof to connect the front and rear windows. The interior has also been given a dramatic redesign by making use of a minimalist approach with most of the dashboard being composed of wood.
In terms of mechanical equipment the Concept 442 will still make use of the 6,0-litre V12 engine delivering power to the rear wheels via the six-speed Touchtronic 2 transmission. This project has been two years in the making but at this point, Cardi has not made it clear whether this concept will be a one-off or whether it will be building units for a large scale production.
