Update
Ford has unveiled the newest model to its Mustang range, the Shelby GT350. The heart of the car is a 5,2-litre, flat-plane crankshaft V8, naturally-aspirated engine developing more than 373 kW and 542 N.m. If that term sounds familiar to you, it could be becuase Ferrari’s V8 engines also featuresflat-plane crankshafts.
In the cabin the transmission tunnel will be adorned with a gearlever for a six-speed manual gearbox, sending all that torque through a Torsen, rear limited slip differential.
The company has also confirmed that it will offer the car with an optional Track Pack adding an engine and transmission cooler.
The standard 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres form part of the standard specifications.
The braking system is supplied by Brembo. It features 394 mm discs with six-piston calipers up front and 380 mm units with four-piston calipers at the rear.
Aerodynamically the Shelby has also been improved compared to the standard model. These changes include a low front splitter, a carbon fibre composite grille, side skirts and a rear diffuser.
Several updates have also been made to the interior. The Shelby features Recaro sport seats, Shelby-specific gauges while the driver control system allows the driver to customise his settings for the stability control system, the ABS brakes, steering and traction control system, throttle mapping and Ford’s MagnaRide system.
Let’s hope the Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang forms part of the local line-up when the range is launched next year in South Africa!
Original story:
As the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show will be a home turf event for Ford, it might come as no surprise that the blue oval will be unveiling a special car at this event.
However, it is even more special if it is a sports car.
Over the past few days, Ford has released these four videos teasing us about its new sports car. It is hard to draw any conclusions by watching the videos, except that the exhaust note points to a serious amount of power under the bonnet.
Some rumours suggest that it will be the new Mustang GT350, as well as the fact that in the video one Ford employee refers to “the heritage of this vehicle” – which could only point the Mustang. If this is the case, for the first time in decades, South Africans could actually look forward to seeing this car in South African showrooms, following the local introduction of the Mustang next year.
