Hyundai’s main focus as of late seems to be on its performance cars. The revealing of this model further supports that thought. It’s called the RN30 Concept and it’s a mean all-wheel drive hyper hatch based on the new i30.
Ever since it recently introduced its ‘N’ moniker, destined to badge all of its hot products, we’ve seen examples of the i30N being put through its paces as well as a very competitive i20 WRC giving Volkswagen a run for its money in the current championship.
This concept, however has a strong relation to the mid-engined RM16. In terms of design it looks extremely aggressive as it makes use of a wide-body kit, a lot of aero and, most noticeably, a pair of crazy butterfly doors.
Driving the RN30 will be a turbocharged 2,0-litre engine pushing 280 kW and 451 N.m of torque to all four 19-inch wheels through a dual-clutch transmission.
Other driver orientated features on the RN30 include a rev-matching system, electronic variable exhausts and an electronic limited-slip differential. To make it as light as possible, the concept is made of high-performance plastic materials.
Hyundai hasn’t given any performance figures, but it won’t be likely for this model to see the production line. The press release, however does confirm that the i30N will be available next year.
