Fresh spy footage from the Nürburgring shows what just might be an upcoming flagship “R” version of the new Volkswagen Tiguan.
Although by no means confirmed, the vehicle filmed blasting around the famous track features quad exhaust exits, à la Golf R, as well as a particularly familiar exhaust note.
If the Wolfsburg automaker does indeed end up producing a range-topping Tiguan R, chances are it will borrow the Golf R’s 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine (which is tuned to develop 206 kW in South Africa and 224 kW in Europe) and boast all-wheel drive.
Interestingly, VW already offers the Golf GTI’s 162 kW mill in the new Tiguan (this model is due to arrive in SA before the end of the year) and a 176 kW biTDI variant (which unfortunately won’t make it to our shores), as well as the R-Line styling package.
