Just over a decade ago, the designers at Maserati took the Ferrari Enzo and turned it into the MC-12. And it was pretty well received.
That was the last occurrence of a joint operation between the two brands. But Italian designer Andrea Ortile has decided to create an impression of what he thinks a LaFerrari-based Maserati would look like. The result is called the MC63.
Despite sharing the LaFerrari platform, a lot of the inspiration for its design is drawn from the 1961 Maserati Tipo 63 ‘Birdcage’. Although it was rather an unsuccessful racecar, in terms of visual aesthetics it makes a pretty good muse.
With its proportions largely matching that of the Ferrari, the MC63 adds a few true Maserati design cues, such as the Alfieri headlamp/grille design. Arches and body panels are also smooth and rounded, unlike the LaFerrari’s angular design.
The design philosophy continues round back as the thin red taillamp stretches beneath the rear spoiler. Two understated exhaust tips and a prominent diffuser are also present.
The LaFerrari is sold out, if you excuse the one being made to aid the victims of the earthquake that hit Italy a little while ago. If Maserati made this, it would give a few more wealthy fans the opportunity to own a excessive hypercar. But that, of course, is highly unlikely…
