The raft of new Mercdes-Benz models continues…
There seems no end to the juggernaut of new Mercedes-Benz cars being launched and the latest is the AMG version of their impressive GLC SUV/crossover range.
Stuttgart has revealed details of the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 ahead of its official unveiling at the 2016 New York Auto Show at the end of this month, and this is what you can expect…
Engine
Like other “43” denoted AMG vehicles, the GLC43 gets the same turbocharged 3,0-litre V6 petrol engine seen in the recent SLC43, C43 Coupe 4Matic and C43 Convertible 4Matic. It delivers a Porsche Macan GTS-beating 270 kW at 5 500 rpm and 520 N.m at 2 000 rpm.
Merc claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4,9 seconds and the top speed is electronically goverened to 250 km/h.
Drivetrain
That power is delivered via a standard 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels with the GLC43 employing a performance version of Mercedes’ 4MATIC system with a rear-biased 31/69 front/rear torque split.
Chassis
The GLC43’s underpinnings have also been tweaked with new steering knuckles and load bearing joints up front as well as unique spring, damper and bushing tuning.
A revised version of the standard GLC’s optional air body control suspension, features air springs and adaptive damping, and there are also five different driving modes in combination with AMG’s Dynamic Select system, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.
Looks
The exterior treatment includes AMG-styled front and rear bumpers, a diamond front grille with gloss-black louvers and chrome pins, unique tailpipes, and 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels painted gloss black.
Inside you’ll find details familiar to recent AMG models, including revised instruments, a flat bottom multi-function steering wheel covered in leather with deep embossing in the grip area and standard sport seats that also have more side bolstering.
Expect local introduction to be close to the third quarter of this year.
