We expected it, but Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has now confirmed that the new Triton bakkie will be available from mid-2016.
This is the fifth-generation Triton, and according to Mitsubishi “the most advanced commercial vehicle to date”. Powering this bakkie will be a new 2,4-litre, turbodiesel engine developing 133 kW and 430 N.m.
The new Triton is also lighter than its predeseccor and will feature technologies such as ASTC (Active Stability & Traction Control), ASL (Adjustable Speed Limiter) and TSC (Trailer Sway Control) mated to the ASTC-system. Both a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed automatic transmission will be available.
The Triton will compete with other bakkies such as the facelifted Ford Ranger and the new Toyota Hilux.
