It seems 2015 will be an important year for the bakkie segment, as the Mitsubishi Triton has just been unveiled in Thailand, and the new Toyota Hilux will also be unveiled next year.
Looking at the new Triton, the company has clearly decided to move away from the rounded, organic design of the current range. Several new technologies have also been added to the bakkie, which includes the visible LED daytime-running lights at the front.
As is currently the case, the new Triton will again be offered in single-, double- and club cab variants. The range will feature three engines, two engines which are carried over from the current generation (2,5-litre turbodiesel and 2,4-litre petrol engine) and a new 2,4-litre turbodiesel unit.
Looking at the pictures, it seems Mitsubishi has also swapped the manual low-range selector with an electric turning knob.
According to WorldCarFans, the new Triton engine will feature the following derivatives:
• 2,4-litre petrol with 94 kW/194 N.m
• 2,4-litre turbodiesel with 133 kW/430 N.m
• 2,5-litre turbodiesel with 94 kW/240 N.m
• 2,5-litre turbodiesel with 131 kW/400 N.m
As has been the case before, the Triton will be market specific. This means the equipment level offered with the bakkie will be unique to each market.
Expect the new Mitsubishi Triton to be launched next year in South Africa.
