The Nissan Leaf is undoubtedly a pioneer in the world of EV motoring, and the next generation of the groundbreaking model will only be better.
While it isn’t offensive looking and still offers the practicality of an average C-segment hatchback, one aspect that could definitely be improved on is its range. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has stated in an interview at Tokyo’s Business News Channel that the company is working on new batteries that would offer up to double the current range – at least within urban limits.
With the current range quoted to be around 200 km for inner-city driving, this figure could be increased to around 400 km during similar driving conditions.
The battery size will remain virtually the same, but advancements in battery research and technology will allow for the increased range, as well as shorter recharging times. Nissan will also tweak the Leaf’s design to make it more appealing to the general consumer, and will cut some of the EV’s mass as well.
