Volkswagen promises that the design study it will unveil at the Paris Motor show will be “as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago”.
Billing the new concept as an “iconic design study”, the German automaker says its unveiling will “signal the Volkswagen brand’s entry into a new era”.
That era, of course, is the era of pure electric vehicles.
“The vehicle is as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago, before it evolved into the world’s best-selling car of the last century,” the Wolfsburg-based brand said in a statement.
“This car, too, has the potential to make history with its completely new vehicle concept,” it added.
VW furthermore revealed that the production vehicle that is set to follow the “one-of-a-kind” concept will be the first Volkswagen to enter the market based on the new modular electrification kit (MEB).
Reports suggest that this model is scheduled to go into production by 2019. We’ll find out more at the Paris Motor Show at the end of the month.
