No need to check your calendars, folks … April 1st has indeed come and gone. But this crazy Nissan X-Trail is indeed for real, even if it’s just a one-off built for the New York International Auto Show.
Officially named the Nissan Rogue Warrior Trail Project (the Japanese brand badges its X-Trail as the Rogue in some markets, including the United States), the show car features a custom camouflage body wrap and military-style yellow glasswork all round.
But the snow/sand tracks caught your eye first, right? The Dominator Tracks, sourced from American Track Truck Inc, measure 1219 mm long, 762 mm high and 381 mm wide, and replace the X-Trail’s regular wheels and tyres.
Nissan admits that the suspension and wheel wells had to be modified to fit the track system, but insists that all drivetrain components – including the 2,5-litre four-cylinder powerplant and Xtronic transmission – are as they left the factory.
Also on the Rogue Trail Warrior adventure equipment list are tinted headlamps, custom fender flares, an ARB gear basket, LED lights and a Warn 4K winch.
Needless to say, don’t expect to see this sort of thing in your local Nissan dealer any time soon. Or, indeed, ever.
