Earlier this year we reported that Porsche is working on a faster, and possibly lighter, version of the rather excellent Cayman.
In Porsche tradition, we would expect it to be called an RS, but it seems Porsche is opting for a motorsport name, GT4.
Further spy pictures have been captured throughout the rest of this year, but still no word from Porsche. However, it seems someone working on Porschedriving.com’s website, accidently uploaded the Cayman GT4 as one of the cars clients can select to drive – see picture above. Someone along the way took a screen shot, and subsequently the model was removed from the website.
What to expect
The Cayman GT4 will undoubtedly be the most focused Cayman to date, surpassing the previous generation 987 Cayman R. This mid-engined car is likely to feature the 3,8-litre, flat-six engine found in the Carrera S, although with slightly less power than in the 911’s 294 kW.
Other reports suggest that it might be a turbocharged 3,6-litre engine. Nevertheless, it is indeed something to look forward to.
It remains to be seen at which show Porsche will unveil the Cayman GT4. Two possibilities are next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, or NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) in Detroit, January 2015.
