To get as much publicity as possible, Audi has been drip-feeding the media with details of its new halo model. Last week the company released details of the range, along with performance and technical specifications.
However, now we can finally look at the car without any camouflage.
Audi has also confirmed that there will be two options for buyers in terms of the V10 engine’s output. Apart from the R8 V10 Plus which develops 449 kW, the entry model (for now) will develop 397 kW from the same engine.
The result is that the Plus will hit 100 km/h in 3,2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 330 km/h. The standard model will hit 100 km/h in 3,5 seconds and top out at 321 km/h.
The updated engine also features cylinder on demand. According to Audi this means that the system can shut down one of the cylinder banks by deactivating injection and ignition.
An Audi spokesperson confirmed to us that the new R8 will arrive in South Africa in the second quarter of 2016.
